Unto us a Child is Born

What other birth could our darkness end?

Offspring of Adam, in sin conceived,

Slaves of darkness, by Satan deceived;

Depraved in heart and deprived of sight.

Aimless and helpless, in darkness we all once lived –

Rebellious sinners, haters of the Light;

Children of disobedience, separated from God.

Unto us a Child is born –

Jesus Christ the Son of God!

Where darkness once prevailed,

There the Light has dawned.

Clothed in human flesh,

The God of light to us has come,

To weary captives of darkness,

In His grace to refresh.

What other birth could make the darkness quake?

Kings of the earth on their thrones shiver,

The prince of darkness with his minions shudder;

Before the Newborn King their hearts tremble and rend.

Unto us a Child is born,

The King of light, darkness to conquer.

Unto us a Child is born!

To Adam’s offspring –

Life, peace, hope, and freedom to lend.

What other birth could transform human history?

In the Valley of dry bones, laid Adam’s offspring,

Dead in their trespasses, enslaved by sin.

Unto us a Child is born, Jesus Christ, the LORD our righteousness!

Come to seek the strayed sons of earth;

Born to revive our lifeless souls;

Born to save us from our lostness;

Sent to conquer our vicious foes.

Unto us a Child is born –

Come to establish justice on earth.

Unto us a Child is born, Christ the Lord, our Mighty King!

Come to break the power of sin;

Come to turn to God the heart of Adam’s offspring.

Unto us a Child is born, the Son of Man, our Great High Priest!

Sent by the Father to rend the curtain

And open the way that we may go in.

Unto us a Child is born, God the Son, our Prince of peace!

Peace between God and man He brings;

Mercy and grace in Him we receive.

Unto us a Child is born –

Born to die, that all may live.

What other birth could shatter the power of darkness?

Unto us a Child is born, God Almighty, the King of glory!

In triumph He has subdued His foes –

Enemies of the Light, stricken with heavy blows.

Their horns  He has broken

And consigned them to everlasting woes;

Their evil schemes He has utterly thwarted,

And swallowed up their weapons of war;

Their glory He has laid low,

And cast them all into the outer darkness.

Surely they are no more!

What other birth could free us Adam’s offspring?

Slaves of darkness, by sin utterly soiled;

Enemies of righteousness, by Satan employed;

Children of disobedience held captive by death.

Shepherded by darkness, we had no fear of God.

But unto us a Child is born, offspring of David, Son of God!

He has broken our yoke of slavery,

Crushed the Serpent’s head,

And shattered the fangs of death.

All you, Adam’s offspring,

Worship the Newborn King and give Him glory!

Bring to Him your sacrifices of thanksgiving!

Unto us a Child is born – the Light of the world;

The True Light that enlightens our darkness.

His alone is the glory!
